For some reason every spring we always have lots of newborns in the studio. I love working with this age, they only stay small for such a short time and once they grow you can’t go back!
Many people ask when is the best time to photograph a new baby. The answer is:
The prime time is 6-10 days, but within the first two weeks is good!
I stress this because it makes all the difference in the world in how successful the shoot is. During the first two weeks, we have lots of time to photograph them sleeping, then usually at the end we try to wake them for a few images with their eyes wide open. After the first two weeks, we usually spend over half the session trying to calm them or get them to go back to sleep. They tend to be more squirmy and harder to settle. This is not to say that it can’t be done, but it is just easier on everyone if you can make it in early!
So the best time to call us to schedule your newborn’s session is while you are still pregnant. We usually make your appointment for about 10 days after your due date. Then if we need to we can move it by a few days.
Here is beautiful Miss Charlee, who was in with her family at 10 days old. She was a breeze to work with and even big brother did an outstanding job!
